Oral history interview with Irving Anches, 1981.

Anches describes his parents' experiences in Eastern Europe and how a 1906 program in their south-central Ukrainian city of Yekaterinoslav (renamed Dnipropetrovsk in 1926) led to immigration to the U.S. The family came to Seattle, Washington, in 1907, lived in Tacoma for several years, and finally settled in Seattle in 1916; Irving Anches was born in 1909. Anches discusses his father's work as a peddler, in second-hand clothing stores, and in military surplus stores following World War I. Irving and his father began buying real estate in 1936. Anches also describes his successes, his religious education, and his family's devotion to Bikur Cholim Congregation.
